Eu nunca deixaria ninguém controlar nossa arte.

Helmuth: A quarta invasão brasileira.

(risos)

Helmuth: Besteira.

Tenho escutado:

SAXON - DENIM AND LEATHER
GARY MOORE (R.I.P.) - VICTIMS OF THE FUTURE
MOTÖRHEAD - ACE OF SPADES
DANZIG III HOW THE GODS KILL
AUTOPSY - ACTS OF THE UNSPEAKABLE

No final minha amiga...

ENGLISH VERSION

By Juliana Lorencini

Metal Revolution - “Blood Magick Necromance” is the ninth studio album of Belphegor and keeps pushing the constant evolution of the band, always surprising the fans but still keeps the thematic about the Catholic Church. The new album is considered to be the best in the bands career and it was recorded in The Abyss studio and produced by Peter Täntgren. Tell us about the recording process and how was it working with Peter?

Helmuth: The recording process was absolutely amazing, the whole project in general. I mean the writing process, creating these eight sound collages, and the 4 recording sessions in the Abyss studios/ Sweden. The intense lyrical content, the artworx. The whole unit makes me proud, I think we developed our sound again. We fully explored our chaos sound and took it to the next level. We added alot new elements and brought all to the next step of intensity. Yes. What a challenge, and now we have BLOOD MAGICK NECROMANCE, our ninth full length Lp!!! I dont wanna talk about the best BELPHEGOR album, but the new monster is a very special album to me. More shredding, more magick, more of everything.

Also Peter Tägtgren, who produced BLOOD MAGICK NECROMANCE, did an amazing job.

MR - On the last album “Blood Magick Necromance” you slowed down the tempo in comparison to the earlier albums, but without losing the bands feeling. Was this done intensionally or was it a natural development?

Helmuth: Well, we didint slow down anything, we developed as we always do without denying our roots, nor change our style drastically, this was the masterplan you know.

Tracks like, SADO MESSIAH or ANGELI MORTIS DE PROFUNDIS are one of our most dynamic - hyperblasting tracks we ever created, and shred you in to another dimension of evil musick.

All the BELPHEGOR trademarks flow in this piece of flesh...more epic and majestic if I may say so, with a new sound. Yes. We made it.

MR - “Impaled Upon The Tongue Of Sathan” was chosen to be the first single from “Blood Magic Necromance”, you also made a music video from this song. What made you chose this song? The music video was filmed in two days and you used over 60 liters of blood. Tell us more about this experience.

Helmuth: BELPHEGOR still have the same groteque message - We continue to stay hermetic to all and everything. We do our own thing, in our own Reich.

The lyrics are always connected to the visuals, the video, the stage and everything. Many verses are original from figures like Nietzsche, Aleister Crowley ( the track RISE TO FALL AND FALL TO RISE contains only original verses of Crowley, from the book The Great Beast 666 ), or the ingenious Marquis de Sade.

An important sentence on the new album: "I´ll eat your heart - to taste u again..."! BLOOD MAGICK NECROMANCE is a blood pact. The lyrical content was perfeckt to do some visual stuff. Yeah there was alot blood, the most important fluid substance on earth. Without blood there is nothing.

We decided for an absolutely - disgusting underground production, a possessed bloodbath. These archaic visions, many people can ´t understand nowadays as they live in plastic worlds, the brainwashed sheep, consuming shit day to day. The clip is contrary to life, its total anti - it was not about shocking...

The ritual action caught on tape was also inspired in part by the world famous works of Viennese Actionists such as Hermann Nitsch and Gunter Brus.

MR - How has the feedback been from the fans and critics so far?

Helmuth: All good so far, we got alot attention, also the magazine feedback was super. But at the end its not that important to me, the people that support BELPHEGOR and buy our merchandise/Lp´s... they are the ones what I'm looking after.

I don’t care so much about media or critics you know, we never did and it won't change. Besides I never use the term fans. To be honest I care about the people that support the band, that help make it happen as we march on maximum level for years and bring our chaos-sound into all possible cities, worldwide, this is what is really important to me.

And for these demons that understand what we represent/ doing - we rehearse like hell, you know. Always trying to develop and get better in every aspect, as musicians - as band. These people deserve only the best, on Lp format - and also in a raw live situation.

MR - In the past you’ve had some trouble with labels, which resulted in a delay of your release of “Pestapokalypse VI” (2006). How is the cooperation working for you and Nuclear Blast, being one of the biggest metal labels in the world?

Helmuth: All is good, we signed a new contract with Nuclear Blast records after the WALPURGIS RITES - HEXENWAHN album in October 2009.

The contract will last again for 3 Lp’s, the latest album BLOOD MAGICK NECROMANCE being the first of them.

I also started creating some riffs/ visions for the next chapter, which is number X, but don’t expect anything before end of 2012.

More activities will follow soon...

MR - Belphegor always had problems with censorship from both labels and certain countries, regarding lyrics and cover art. What are the reactions these days regarding censorship?

Helmuth: Fukk censorship, restrictions. There are always some moralizers that try to piss around you know, I mean BELPHEGOR are here since 1993, they never get any chance to break our will. We do what we wanna do. The more they prayed the more we mocked these swarm of rats.

We had several ingenious artists in the past that worked with me together on the artwork, I always know exactly what I want and have visons how it have to look.

I never would let anyone to control our art. Me and Serpenth have full control in all regarding BELPHEGOR, this is very important, to create art. Democracy dont work in a band like BELPHEGOR.

MR - Talking about censorship, who makes your cover art? How do you reach the final result of the polemic cover art? (laughs)

Helmuth: We just follow our own visions...the band is alot bigger nowadays, so we have better tours, conditions/ playtimes etc. That is amazing - we fought more than hard for it over the years.

I remember we used blood/ animal heads etc on stage in 1996/ 1997 around and encountered alot of problems with agents/ moralizers etc. We brought it back in 2003-2004, again alot complaints, alot venues refused to let us play etc. We got kicked out of festivals - all this shit you have to deal with.

Now BELPHEGOR are more established. There are still some problems here and there, but all in all we can do it. We utilize blood and flesh sculptures made of meat and animal heads - to visualize a more extreme stage show. This is very important to me.

Besides, the blood - the rich taste and smell gets you in to a morbid mood before the convent. Its an extra kick you know.

Sometimes people dont believe that its real. When we offer them a taste... some will spit or vomit or run out and leave haharrrr - Some are offended, which is also fine by me. I really dig the visual aspect you know. Terror musick, compared with extreme stage show, this is for real.

I mean i see BELPHEGOR as live band,....to play for the maniakks, to travel around, amazing sightseeing - meet buddies, also alot interesting freaks on the road - Metal communities etc

I am more than thankful for all of it. I am from a small and conservative country, the traveling opened my mind you know.

I learned alot on the road, and was able to see so many amazing things the last decade. Anyways, there are only two continents left, Asia and Australia, but finally we found some serious agents over there that work on it and will bring us over in 2012.

MR - You’ve been to Brazil a few times but never made a tour this long. What are your expectations for this tour, together with Ragnarok?

Helmuth: The 4th Brazilian raid. First tour as headliner in 2006 (4 shows), than with GORGOROTH, later on with OBITUARY, if im not wrong.

You see so many things, you live fast ..and shred musick for dedicated die - hard people - this is cool.

Doesn´t matter were we march in, as long as the demons are into it, its great and we try to add some extra chaos and shred our sound collages into their heads with the uttermost aggresion possible.

Brazil yeah, S-America in general - one of the most fanatic crowd in the world, all bands that visited S- America wanna return, I mean what more you want to ask for?

To shred before dedicated - people and crazy maniakks. It is the way it is meant to be u know. Just the way Metal should celebrated and represented.

South America is always a super place for BELPHEGOR, people always treat us good there, so we look forward to play there again.

I hope alot maniakks will attend these convents and celebrate with us extreme musick. There are also one show in Venezuela with BLIND GUARDIAN and two concerts in Brazil with MORBID ANGEL.

MR - In September you will once again play at the biggest extreme music festival, Setembro Negro alongside Ragnarok and Morbid Angel. Are you looking foreward to perform for the most intens audience in the world? And what do you remember from the last time you were performing at Setembro Negro.

Helmuth: Yeah about time, its a real pleasure to be invited again to South America by Mr. Eduardo/ Tumba and Mr. Nelson/ Sylphorium. - and its the 4th time now that we came to your magnificient country.

This raid is special, we will do 8 shows in Brazil with RAGNAROK. Amazing, Im really looking forward to return, also to nuke the cities were we never had the possibilities to play yet. We also do Venezuela and 3 shows in Columbia again. All in all 12 convents… yes, the core is ready to kick ass. Are u ready to get blown away by chaos musick?

MR - In the last interview you did with Metal Revolution you said that the fans always throw strange things onto the stage, like absorbent, a beer mug, pornographic magazines and spiders. Do this keep happening? And have you had worse things thrown at you during a show? (laughs)

Helmuth: Bullshit. People who throw stuff on stage, or on musicians are weak suckers. They deserve a punch in the face...

I once said, as I remember, was that alot people bring sick and/ or cool stuff to our shows and give it to us before or after the show etc...mostly its liquor/ drugs - and that is always highly appreciated. What is Metal without heavy drinking?!

All the great musicians and artists were drunkards... many on heavy drugs. I am not talking about one time a month, I talk about decades of substance use and abuse....the most important compositions were written in delirium...this will never change.

MR - Fans are always interested to know about bands influences. What are your influences, and what have you been listening to recently?

Helmuth: The most impact to me were the NWOBHM bands and I still dig the sounds, the attitude, the passion fom the bands back then.

MOTÖRHEAD and BLACK SABBATH are one of my all time fave bands.

These days i listen to

SAXON - DENIM AND LEATHER
GARY MOORE (R.I.P.) - VICTIMS OF THE FUTURE
MOTÖRHEAD - ACE OF SPADES
DANZIG III HOW THE GODS KILL
AUTOPSY - ACTS OF THE UNSPEAKABLE

I dig controversial art, combined with brachial musick like DEICIDE, AUTOPSY, SHINING, MAYHEM, CANNIBAL CORPSE, GORGOROTH, to name a few.

For me extreme art is important. It gets my attention, not like these lame "ultra correct" sheep-horde bands...

Its a good time for extreme musick, alot people want to hear brutal guitar musick, not this radio mainstream garbage.

Metal musick will always exist. It will live forever. Metal is religion - its sex - rebellion.....its real. One of the best things in life. Hail Metal! Hail Death!

MR - You also said that you save some of the stuff, what did you bring home?

Helmuth: Yes. I collected many trophies and reminders from my raids worldwide...like all hunters do.

MR - You once stated that you are an atheist and that not believing in God also means not believing in the Devil. I confess that I identified immediately with your statement. How would you rate the lyrics of Belphegor then? Many people would bet Satanists, by they have direct challenge to the Church. Would you call Belphegor a satanic band, since you’re opposing the church?

Helmuth: I have been interested in Occultism and magick for decades. Read a shitload of books on the topic and whatever surrounds this theme.

We never were a satanic band. I am possessed by all that is different, the darkest aspects of humanity.

I see the word Sathan as a metaphor against the holy spirit, to mock the sheep. The archangel - The fallen one is the creator of invention, the adversary, the lightbringer. The first rebel.

It is important to walk a different path. Decide for yourself. Make your own decisions. This is about free thinking. Liberation in general.......and breeding the strong Anti-Christian sentiment!

We have seen everything, in every town and city worldwide... We take a lot of inspiration from our own experiences and always different texts, films, albums which shape our views and perspectives....

BELPHEGOR is anti-god, anti-life with tendencies to Nihilism. At the end my friend... it is all about the musick you know. This is what will remain after all is said and done. Our passion and blood. In eternity...

MR - Nergal from Behemoth was sentenced because he desecrated the Holy Bible during a concert in his homeland Poland. What is your view on this and the current situation regarding religion on a worldwide basis?

Helmuth: Alot bands did it in the past, some desecrate it, some throw it in the crowd. What the fukk ever man, as long as artists continue to mock the church, its fine by me.

I mean, there are enough churches around. Here in Austria you find almost in each small village 2 - 3 churches, it’s not a big loss if some get burned or pillaged, on the contrary....they can go to hell.

MR - Thank you for the interview, please leave a message to the Brazilian fans and tell them what to expect for the upcoming tour.

Helmuth: Thanks for the space and support Juliana, appreciated. Well, Serpenth and I - representing BELPHEGOR, and I’m proud to announce here, BELPHEGOR will return with the strongest line up what ever toured Latin America.

Check out our new monolith, BLOOD MAGICK NECROMANCE. An Honor - this Horror! www.belphegor.at
