A banda que anunciou recentemente ter deixado a Regain Records, atualmente está em processo de composição e se prepara para iniciar as gravações do novo álbum, ainda não intitulado.
Em entrevista ao Metal Revolution o baixista da banda DezeptiCunt conta como foram os principais momentos da banda no último ano, como estão os preparativos para o próximo álbum, e comenta a atual cena Black Metal.

Metal Revolution: Essa foi a segunda vez que vocês estiveram no Brasil, ao lado do Belphegor ao todo foram sete shows pelo país numa turnê mais extensa que a anterior. Como foram os shows esse ano?
DezeptiCunt: Dessa vez nós fomos para o norte para dar aos fãs fervorosos um inferno aural! Começamos por Belém, descemos para Fortaleza e então Hellcife. O povo no norte é verdadeiramente insano e realmente nos fez querer voltar lá no próximo ano!
Na parte do sul fomos a São Paulo, Belo Horizonte e Porto Alegre como no último ano, mas Curitiba foi também adicionada para a tour dessa vez.

MR: Vocês enceram os dois últimos shows da turnê brasileira se apresentando ao lado do Morbid Angel, um dos maiores nomes do Death Metal mundial. Como foi tocar ao lado deles, sabendo que você é um grande fã da banda?
DezeptiCunt: Foi uma grande honra conhecer e tocar com o grande Morbid Angel. Eles mostraram para todos que não dão a minima se há uma multidão de fãs que não gostam no novo album deles. Velhos clássicos misturados com as coisas novas realmente fizeram um show matador, e como sempre tocaram com uma atitude digna de verdadeiros reis do death metal!

DezeptiCunt: México era um território desconhecido para nós, mas muito necessário para uma banda ter mais exposição e crescimento. Não tenha nada ruim a dizer sobre as pessoas, fomos surpreendidos ao sermos bem recebidos por tantos fãs. Toluca foi um dos mais loucos lugares que tocamos, o público nos apreciou muito e foram totalmente insanos quando entramos no palco.
DezeptiCunt: México era um território desconhecido para nós, mas muito necessário para uma banda ter mais exposição e crescimento. Não tenha nada ruim a dizer sobre as pessoas, fomos surpreendidos ao sermos bem recebidos por tantos fãs. Toluca foi um dos mais loucos lugares que tocamos, o público nos apreciou muito e foram totalmente insanos quando entramos no palco.
MR: Eu soube que um dos shows foi cancelado, qual o motivo?
DezeptiCunt: A coisa toda foi falta de comunicação entre produtor e nosso agente. Tinhamos dois shows em um dos dias e não queríamos desapontar os fãs que estavam nos esperando. Os ingressos já tinham sido adquiridos e as expectativas feitas. Infelizmente a distância era muito grande para superarmos, e o produtor local decidiu cancelar o show porque chegaríamos muito tarde para o show. Nós oferecemos as mais sinceras desculpas aos nossos fãs afetados, faremos isso para vocês da próximas vez!

DezeptiCunt: Sim, você pode dizer isso, haha! Nós realmente ganhamos muitos presentes dos fãs como cds, acessórios etc. Acho que tenho a cerca de 11 cds na minha mesa, terei que arranjar um tempo para ouvi-los todos. O mais especial vem de uma banda de Hellcife chamada Ungodly Priest. Eles têm feito a embalagem toda por eles mesmos, decorado com alguns ossos e peles de animais, algunas correntes e ganchos realmente afiados, couro e uma grande cruz invertida feita de metal na parte de trás. Tudo foi feito a mão e eles merecem crédito por terem feito um esforço no design, mais bandas deveriam fazer o mesmo!

Também ganhei um presente especial no México de um cara em Leon. Ele fez um enorme banner com um design próprio de Jesus carregando sua cruz e então colocou o logo do Ragnarok ao fundo. Poderiamos usar esse desenho como um desenho para camiseta um dia, o tempo dirá. Levarei isso para nossa sala de ensaio e colocarei na parede com certeza! MR: Vocês recentemente anunciaram a saída da banda da gravadora Regain 
Records, assim como outros nomes do Black Metal já o fizeram - Gorgoroth, Marduk, Dark Funeral. Qual a razão da banda ter deixado a gravadora?
DezeptiCunt: Os dois grandes motivos que nos fizeram sair foram à situação financeira e a falta de compromisso da gravadora. A indústria é realmente muito difícil hoje em dia, especialmente depois da explosão de downloads e pirataria. Não são todas as bandas que conseguem bons números de vendas de cds e as gravadoras estão sofrendo bastante. Infelizmente a geração de hoje não aprecia mais o físico como antes, eles estão satisfeitos com um mp3 de baixa qualidade e não se importam muito com encartes e letras, os tempos estão mudando e isso pode levar à queda de toda indústria metal. Nós quase não recebmos mais direitos autorais das rádios porque metal não é comercial o bastante para estar no ar. O que significa, bandas terão menos dinheiro, gravadoras terão menos dinheiro, não existe muito dinheiro rastante para gravar e lançar álbuns, por isso mais e bandas ficam menores e eventualmente param de tocar. Todos nós precisamos de dinheiro para viver, então musicos têm de ter empregos estáveis e deixar suas bandas para ter dinheiro. É uma espiral descendente para as bandas de metal não-comerciais.

MR: Algumas bandas compõem enquanto estão na estrada. Isso também acontece com o Ragnarok? Você já tem alguma idéia ou tema para o próximo álbum?
DezeptiCunt: Para ser honesto não compomos nada em turnê. Nossa rotina é muito apertada com relação a horários de vôos e transporte, mas ao mesmo tempo tentamos curtir a turnê, então fazemos algo sempre que temos tempo. É difícil conhecer cada cidade, mas somos aventureiros e tentamos ter boas memórias da turnê, não apenas tocar, festejar e dormir.
DezeptiCunt: Para ser honesto não compomos nada em turnê. Nossa rotina é muito apertada com relação a horários de vôos e transporte, mas ao mesmo tempo tentamos curtir a turnê, então fazemos algo sempre que temos tempo. É difícil conhecer cada cidade, mas somos aventureiros e tentamos ter boas memórias da turnê, não apenas tocar, festejar e dormir.
Ainda estamos trabalhando em novas músicas para o próximo album, mas as letras ainda não prontas. O conceito está em desenvolvimento e letras de várias canções já estão escritas. Tentaremos ver como isso funciona com a música como pretendido, se ficarmos felizes com isso, continuaremos com as letras na mesma linha das outras. A maior parte da temática será sobre escuridão e magoa negra, mas veremos o que o resultado final será.
MR: O Ragnarok ainda não possui nenhum material ao vivo. Vocês pensam em lançar algo como um cd ou DVD em breve?
DezeptiCunt: Temos algumas gravações da nossa última turnê européia, mas não estou certo se podemos usá-las por causa do som e da mixagem. Estamos planejando algo para nosso aniversário de 20 anos, mas isso permanencerá em segredo até o plano estar 100% fixo e com a nova gravadora ajudando.

MR: Você tem outros projetos paralelos além do Ragnarok como banda principal, em especial a Nebular Mystic, a qual você tem se dedicado mais ultimamente. Na última vez em que conversamos você me disse que vocês enfrentavam alguns problemas com o line up. Como está a formação da banda agora?
DezeptiCunt: Já faz um tempo que temos tido problemas com o lineup da banda, principalmente no que diz respeito ao cargo de baterista. Depois de perder nosso baterista, tentamos alguns bateristas mas isso não funcionou e estamos parados. O futuro da banda é incerto nesse ponto.

DezeptiCunt: Bem, Fragment tem sido uma importante banda nos últimos três anos, isso me permitiu desenvolver outros lados da minha mente musical e também evoluir como baixista. Começamos a gravar o álbum mas tivemos que parar na metade do caminho, porque o segundo guitarrista desenvolveu tendinite que é um tipo de inflamação dos tendões no braço esquerdo dele.
DezeptiCunt: Bem, Fragment tem sido uma importante banda nos últimos três anos, isso me permitiu desenvolver outros lados da minha mente musical e também evoluir como baixista. Começamos a gravar o álbum mas tivemos que parar na metade do caminho, porque o segundo guitarrista desenvolveu tendinite que é um tipo de inflamação dos tendões no braço esquerdo dele.
Sobre Vidsyn não estamos ativos por algum tempo. O plano original era fazer novas músicas e gravar um novo álbum em 2011, mas já que vivemos distantes não chegariamos a lugar nenhum. Temos feito algum tipo de pré-produção para o álbum, mas temos que ficar juntos para finalizar o álbum. Espero que possamos estar prontos em breve e lançar o álbum.
Também gravo baixo para um outro projeto chamado Quadrivium. Esse será nosso segundo álbum mas somos apenas uma banda de estúdio. Sem planos feitos para apresentações já que temos membros morando afastados.
MR: Você nasceu e cresceu na Noruega, país tido como reduto das bandas de Black Metal. Há algum tempo você compõe o line up do Ragnarok, um dos grandes nomes do gênero. Quais foram suas influências musicais nesse processo?DezeptiCunt: Minhas influencias vêm do black metal e death metal. Em primeiro lugar as bandas de black metal mais antigas como Immortal, Ulver, Burzum e Emperor. Mas também bandas como Morbid Angel, Machine Head e Pantera estavam me guiando numa fase inicial tornanando me um fã de metal extremo.
A idades dos membros do Ragnarok faz a questão das influências serem muito diferente. Mas não há dúvida que as primeiras bandas de black metal inspiraram e ajudaram a moldar a banda que o Ragnarok é hoje. Falando sobre o atual line-up as influências variam muito, mas somos todos influenciados por metal extremo tanto dos anos 80 como o começo dos anos 90.
MR: Como você vê a cena Black Metal hoje em dia e analisa as mudanças pelas quais a mesma tem passado durante esses anos?
DezeptiCunt: Bem primeiro de tudo quero fazer um afirmação sobre o black metal old school. Old school está morto! Não existe tal coisa mais! As bandas black metal old school, não tem desenvolvido seu som ou mesmo desenvolvido dentro de alguma coisa mais. As “novas” bandas que reinvindicam estar tocando a velha black metal old school estão erradas, eles não são nada além de cópias e gostaria de chamá-los black metal “new school”. Ragnarok é uma das bandas que manteve seu velho estilo e tem seu próprio som, tentando fazer fazer um som único e distinto, algo que é muito difícil de se conseguir na atualidade.

As mudanças do começo são que as primeiras bandas tinham sons únicos e você apenas aprecisava ouvir 3 segundos da música para saber qual banda você estava ouvindo. Hoje em dia as bandas soam todas umas com as outras, até mesmo os vocais são parecidos. Como você pode entender minha negatividade não existem muitas bandas que me impressionam mais. Sinto que tudo isso já foi feito antes. Antigamente eles usavam equipamentos que faziam um som único para a banda, mas quando o metal se tornou mais comercial as companhias começaram a desenvolver seus amplificadores e mesmo o mundo digital assumiu. Hoje as bandas não pensam muito sobre seu outro som do que fazer isso soar “legal” e rico. O equipamento digital faz a bateria soar menos orgânica, o acesso a programas digitais de gravação torna isso fácil para as bandas gravarem em casa usando plug-ins baratos, as bandas usam os mesmos amplificadores de guitarras que todo mundo isso faz o produto soar menos original do que as antigas bandas costumavam fazer. Minha dica para todas as bandas fora disso é gastem muito tempo fazendo seu próprio som, não usem pedais ou amplificadores porcaria, mas façam isso simples e gastem mais tempo comprando uma boa guitarra com bons pick-ups.
MR: As bandas e artistas do Black Metal vem sofrido fortes críticas da mídia não especializada e da sociedade em si em diversos países em especial a Polônia, fonte das mais recentes notícias a respeito, onde eles têm uma forte censura a esse tipo de música. Por que você acha que isso ainda acontece hoje em dia?
DezeptiCunt: Acho que isso vem do medo e falta de compreensão. Em países onde a religião é forte, as pessoas temem o metal extremo por causa da expressão violenta e do som. Para eles metal extremo é blasfêmia e não apenas por causa das letras mas porque isso soa também brutal e sem significado para eles. Pelo o que consigo entender sobre pessoas religiosas, eles temem o que não faz sentido para elas, nesse caso a música extrema. Infelizmente a religião ainda tem um forte aspecto sobre as pessoas em alguns países. A Polônia é muito religiosa até mesmo pelo do papa ser polonês, o catolicismo é muito conservador contra a direção protestante do cristianismo. Como todos as religiões, eles temem a critíca e que pessoas percam a fé no seu poder e conhecimento das “palavras de Deus”. Eles sabem que são todos mentirosos, o no fundo o que temem que suas mentiras fiquem expostas.
MR: Eu gostaria de lhe agradecer pela entrevista e pedir para que você deixasse um recado para os fãs brasileiros. Espero vê-lo em breve em mais uma grande turnê pelo Brasil!

Metal Revolution: This was the second time that you were in Brazil, this time with Belphegor where you did seven shows, a more extensive tour than last time. How were the gigs this year?DezeptiCunt: This time we went up north to give the hardcore fans aural hell! We started out in Belém, went down to Fortaleza then to Hellcife. The crowd in the north are truly insane and really made us want to return next year!
For the southern part we went to São Paulo, Belo Horizonte and Porto Alegre as last year, but Curitiba was also added to the tour this time.
MR: You finished the last two shows of the Brazilian tour playing with Morbid Angel, one of biggest names of Death Metal worldwide. How was it playing with them, knowing you are a big fan of the band?
DezeptiCunt: It was a great honour to meet and play with mighty Morbid Angel. They showed the crowd that they don`t take shit even if there`s a lot of fans that dislike their newest release. Old classics mixed with their new stuff really made a killer show, and as always they played with an attitude worthy of the true kings of deathmetal!

DezeptiCunt: Mexico was uncharted territory for us, but really a neccesity in order for the band to get more exposure and growth. I have nothing bad to say about the crowd, we were surprised to be greeted welcome by so many fans. Toluca was one of the most crazy places we played, the crowd appreciated us much and went totally insane when we entered the stage.

Tickets were already purchased and expectations made. Unfortunately the distance was far too great for us to overcome, and the local promoter decided to cancel the gig because we were going to be really late for the show. We offer our fans that were affected by this our sincere apologies, we will make it up to you next time around.

They have made the whole cd case themselves, decorated it with animal bones and fur, some chains and really sharp hooks, leather and a big inverted cross made from metal on the backside. The whole thing is handmade and they deserve credit for making an effort about the design, more bands should do the same!

I also got a special gift in Mexico from a guy in Leon. He made a huge banner with a selfmade design of Jesus carrying his cross and then put the Ragnarok logo at the bottom. We might use this design as a t-shirt design one day, time will show. I will bring it to our rehearsal room and put it up on the wall for sure! Check out Nestor Avalos` artwork, talented guy!
MR: You recently announced the departure from the bands label Regain Records, as did other big names of Black Metal; Gorgoroth, Marduk and Dark Funeral. What is the reason for the band leaving the label?
DezeptiCunt: Mainly the labels lack of commitment and their financial situation made us leave. The industry is really hard these days, specially after the explotion of downloads and piracy. Not many bands sell a lot of albums anymore and the labels are struggling. Unfortunatly todays generation don`t appreciate the hardware like before, they are satisfied with crappy sampled mp3s and don`t care much for the artwork and lyrics. Times are changing and this might lead to the downfall of the whole metal industry. We don`t get royalties from the radios cause metal isn`t commertial enough to get air time. Which means the bands will get less money, labels get less money, there`s not much money left to record and release albums anymore and bands get smaller and will eventually stop playing. We all need money to live so musicians have to get steady jobs and leave their bands to get money. It`s a downword spiral for non-commertial metal bands.

MR: "Collectors of the King" is the last studio album the band and it was released in 2010. You told me that we can wait for the new Ragnarok album in the beginning of 2012, will this date change even with the label change?
DezeptiCunt: As far as our plans go we will release the album autumn 2012. We are dealing with the label issue as we speak and we have got several offers after announcing the leaving of Regain. This far we got 5 offers without doing anything, but we will work hard to get the right deal for the band. The industry is really hard but still we are wanted, this only means there are people out there believing in our work.

MR: Some bands compose while they are on the road. Does this happen with Ragnarok too? Do you have some ideas or theme to the next album?
DezeptiCunt: To be honest we don`t compose anything on tour. Our schedule is very tight with flights and transport, but at the same time we try to enjoy the tour so we do some sightseeing whenever we have the time. It is hard to get to know each city but we are adventurers and try to make nice memories from the touring, not only play, party and sleep.
We are still working on the new songs for the upcoming album, but the lyrics aren`t done yet. The concept is under development and lyrics for several songs has been written already. We will try to see how it works with the song it was intended to, if we are happy about it we will continue with the lyrics in the same vein as these ones. Mostly the thematic will be about darkness and black magic, but we`ll see what the end result will be.
MR: Ragnarok has not any live material yet. Do you think about releasing something like a Cd or DVD soon?
DezeptiCunt: We have some recordings from our latest european tour, but I`m not sure if we can use it because of the sound and the mix. We are planning something for our 20-years anniversary, but this will remain a secret until the plan is 100 % set and with the new labels support.

MR: I know that you have other parallel projects beyond Ragnarok as main band, specially Nebular Mystic, which you have been more dedicated too lately. Last time that we talked you told me you faced some problems with the line up. How is the bands line up now?
DezeptiCunt: We`ve had problems with the line-up for a while now, basically regarding a drummer. After loosing our drummer we tried out a couple of drummers but it didn`t work out and we are at a standstill. The future of the band is uncertain at this point.

MR: Besides Nebular Mystic you have other bands too, could you tell us more about them?
DezeptiCunt: Well Fragment has been an important band for the past 3 years, it allowed me to develop other sides of my musical mind and even improved my skills as a bass player. We started to record the album but had to stop halfway, cause the second guitar player developed tendonitis which is some kind of inflamation of the tendons in his left arm.

About Vidsyn we haven`t been active for quite some time. The original plan was to make new songs and record a new album in 2011, but since we live far apart we didn`t get anywhere. We have made some kind of pre production for the album, but we have to get together to finish the album. Hopefully we can be ready soon and release the album.
I will also record the bass for another project called Quadrivium. This will be our second album but we are only a studio band. No plans are made for performing since we have members living far apart.
MR: You were born and grew up in Norway, a country considered to be the stronghold of Black Metal bands. You have been a part of Ragnaroks line-up for some time now, one of the great names of the genre. What were your musical influences in this process?DezeptiCunt: My influences comes from both deathmetal and blackmetal. First of all the early blackmetal bands like Immortal, Ulver, Burzum and Emperor. But also bands like Morbid Angel, Machine Head and Pantera were guiding me at an early stage of becoming a fan of extreme metal.
The age of Ragnaroks members makes the issue of inflences very different. But there is no doubt the early blackmetal bands inspired to the making of Ragnarok as a band. Talking about todays line-up the influences vary a lot but we are all influenced by the extreme metal from both the 80`s and early 90`s.
MR: How do you see the Black Metal scene nowadays and analyze the changes which it has gone through over the years?
DezeptiCunt: Well first of all I want to make a statement about old school blackmetal. Old school is dead! There is no such thing anymore! The old school blackmetal bands has either developed their sound or even developed into something else. The “new” bands that claims to be playing old school blackmetal are wrong, they are nothing but copies and I would like to call them “new school” blackmetal. Ragnarok is one of the bands that kept the old style and have their own sound, trying to make a unique sound are very hard these days.

The changes from the beginning is that the early bands had unique sounds and you only needed to hear 3 seconds of a song to know what band you were listening to. Nowadays the bands sounds all the same, even the vocals are the same. As you can understand from my negativity there aren`t many bands that impress me anymore. I get the feeling that it has all been done before. Earlier they used equipment that made the sound unique for the band but when metal became more commertial companies started to develop their amplifiers and even the digital world took over. Todays bands don`t think too much about their sound other than making it sound “cool” and rich. Digital equipment makes the drums sound less organic, the access to digital recording programs makes it easy for bands to record at home using cheap plug-ins, bands use the same guitar amplifiers as everybody else this making the product sound less original than the old bands used to accomplish. My tip for all of the bands out there is to spend a lot of time making your own sound, don`t use crap pedals and amps but make it simple and spend more on buying a good guitar with good pick-ups.
MR: The Black Metal bands and artists has suffered strong criticism from non-specialized media and society itself in many countries, especially Poland from where the source of the latest news came, where they have a sharp rebuke to this kind of music. Why do you think that it still happens nowadays?
DezeptiCunt: I guess this all comes from fear and lack of understanding. In countries where religion is strong people fear extreme metal because of the violent expression and sound. To them extreme metal is blasphemy not only because of the lyrics but because it sounds too brutal and meaningless to them. As I can understand from religious people they fear what is meaningless to them, specially extreme music. Unfortunatly religion still has a firm grip on people in some countries. Poland is very religious since the pope is polish and all, catholism is quite conservative versus the protestant direction of christianity. Like all religions they fear criticism and that people will loose faith in their power and understanding of “gods words”. They know they are all liars, what they in reality fear is that their lies will get exposed.
